Mendoza
Known for its abundant vineyars and spectacular mountain scenery, Mendoza is a great option for those who wish to indulge in some of Argentina's culinary delights over a glass of delicious locally produced red wine.
The city of Mendoza is located not too far from the Chilean border, and is less than 100 miles from Santiago de Chile as the crow flies. It has long been associated with the cultivation of wine, and though it has been for many years something of an underdog in the world of wine, Argentina is emerging as one of the world's foremost producers of quality wine.
There are dozens of vineyards in the region, and tours can be arranged which include wine tasting, visits to wine cellars, and even top-quality meals while enjoying breathtaking views of the mountain peaks that surround most vineyards.
The scenery around the Mendoza region is truly stunning, and the Andean peaks that run through the province will provide an infinitely spectacular backdrop to your visit here. Should you visit in the winter, there is some excellent skiing to be enjoyed on the nearby slopes. Mendoza is also home to Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Americas.
